A young man with tattoos on his left arm, wearing a white shirt, black vest, and black pants, stands with his right hand in his pocket at a race track. He has a lanyard with a pass around his neck and is looking at the camera. Bleachers and race track facilities are visible in the background on a sunny day.

I’m Matthew Roberts — a photographer and filmmaker based in Australia, working under Matthew Roberts Productions.

My work is rooted in one simple belief: being seen changes people.

Before photography became a profession, it was a way of looking after the people around me. Growing up, I watched friends and peers struggle quietly with how they saw themselves — and how the world saw them in return. Too often, their worth felt tied to appearance, comparison, or approval.

Picking up a camera gave me a way to push back against that.

I began photographing people not to reshape them, but to reflect them honestly — to show presence, character, and beauty beyond performance. What started as something deeply personal became a career, but the intention has never changed.

Today, I work across portraits, weddings, editorial, and commercial projects. Regardless of the brief, the focus remains the same: creating images that feel human, considered, and real. I prioritise trust over posing, presence over perfection, and craft in service of story.

As my work grows, so does my responsibility. I’m driven to collaborate on projects that carry meaning — work that challenges narrow definitions of beauty, supports mental health awareness, and gives space to stories that might otherwise be overlooked.

Photography gave me a way to understand the world.
Now, I use it to try and leave it a little better than I found it.
